Reviews back in effect!

After a sneaky upgrade to the server, the reviews database had to be rebuilt, so it's been a hive of activity behind the scenes to get things up and running again.

To kick off things, there's a new review up today: B.I.G.'s 'Come On' 12", featuring Sadat X - and the essential production of Lord Finesse. Definitely a DWG-worthy piece if ever there was one.

MC Price & DJ Double Trouble

Hurrah! DWG's literary prowess expands with Sureshot's latest review: MC Price and DJ Double Trouble's dope 'My Life Story/The Price Is Right'.

Definitely check it out...

Unique EP - Sold Out!

Well, it didn't last very long... As soon as we announced the next Special Project in our series over in our forum, it sold out.
All 175 copies of Unique's 'Die Hard' EP disappeared in under a week. If you missed out this time, then you should check out the forum, get involved and wait for the announcements!

Shouts to everyone who made this release possible and to everyone who supported this project. Interview to follow shortly...

New England Hip Hop Massive

Yeah, it's been a hot minute (ie. a month or two) since the last flurry of activity took place on the main part of the site, but there's a good record featured tonight to make up for the sluggishness!
One of my favourite finds of the past year, the New England Hip Hop Massive compilation gets a light grilling in the singles section. Special shots to Cadence for his help on uncovering some of the facts behind this one.

Sons Of Sam

One of my favourite singles purchased in the last couple of years makes an appearance in the reviews today: Sons Of Sam's 'Oooh He Got An Afro', backed up with the equally-dope 'Charisma'.

Well worth checking for.

Top Choice Clique

As requested, the Authentication Station got a little update today, with the Top Choice Clique 'Peace Of Mind' 12".

A great record that is quite hard to find and has been reproduced almost identically. Luckily, DWG can soon spot the differences!

Project X - Armed & Dangerous

An obvious addition to the reviews section, the Project X album is one well worth picking up. Packed with Grand G's dope production, this album also has one of the best picture covers out there!

Check the review here...

Godfather Don interview

Not to take anything from Unkut's dope recent postings, but we have an exclusive Godfather Don interview up tonight.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Authentication Update

By popular demand, we've added Main Source's 'Think/Atom' 12" to the Authentication Station today. Now hopefully no-one will get conned into paying vast sums for an inferior bootleg.
Peep it!

Markey Fresh

'Once Again It's On', Markey Fresh's rarely-spotted follow up EP to his 12" on Jive makes an appearance in the reviews section tonight.
Some great 45 King production makes this one to watch out for.

We'd like to thank everyone who's pre-ordered our Godfather Don EP - this is now completely sold out! The test pressings have been approved and we're expecting finished vinyl in the next 14 days. Thanks again to everyone who's supported this project: you're all responsible for helping us get these long-lost cuts out on wax. Pat yourselves on the back!

Back To The Lab!

In case you missed it, we added a revised review of the Def Rhythm Productions compilation LP, 'Back To The Lab'.
One of the best compilation albums of the era, this also has to be one of the most fiendishly-difficult-to find records out there. If you like the late '80s/early '90s sound, then you'll like this one...

The Wrath Of Uptown!

As we plough through the old reviews from our blog and add them to the new site, it was time to re-submit an old favourite of ours...

The Underground's 'A Small Sample' LP from the late 80's, as featured on several mixes, namely DJ Shadow's 'Diminishing Returns'.

A great 'lost' album.

Think Big

A great record gets filed into the reviews today: Pudgee, B.I.G. and Lord Tariq's phenomenal 'Think Big'. Great rhymes and sterling production from Money Boss's Minnesota.

A '95 test-press only banger, this one couldn't escape the bootleggers' fingers for long, but that doesn't detract from the greatness of the music.
Read and learn!

The Dereliks EP

To contrast with the uber-raerness of last time, we've shone the spotlight on something a little more obtainable this week.

The excellent Dereliks 'A Turn On The Wheel...' EP gets a grilling over in the reviews section today.

Great stuff - something that everyone should own.

Unique 'Die Hard' LP

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a review? Maybe.
It's not every day you 'discover' a long-lost album that was limited to a test-pressing only. Passed from one DWG member to another, the much-rumoured Unique full-length vinyl, 'Die Hard', graces the reviews page today.

And, yep, we felt it deserved a joint write-up. Check it out!
